Our Principal, Sam Shogren together with Salim Mohammad, Curator of the David Rumsey Map Center at Stanford University’s Cecil H Green Library were invited to at the Council of American Maritime Museum’s 2017 Annual Meeting held at the San Fransisco National Maritime Museum, a unit of the National Park Service. Salim Mohammad shared with the audience how the Rumsey Map Center came to be, the collecting passions of David Rumsey the man, and the technologies used by the Center to preserve and present one of the nation’s largest map collections. Following Salim’s presentation, Sam Shogren dug into the research potential of the collections for discovering and presenting maritime heritage subjects. Sam shared with the audience his personally curated list of both maritime and non-maritime maps which shed light on the development and use of maritime culture, maritime landscapes and maritime technologies from around the world.
